With its groundbreaking projects, Turkey has secured its place among the leading countries in the aerospace sector by allocating over 5 billion 52 million lira from its 2025 budget for space activities.
According to a compilation by AA reporter from the 2025 Central Government Budget Law Proposal, Turkey successfully completed its first manned space mission this year and plans to continue its projects to maintain a top-tier status in aerospace.
The space budget for 2024 was set at 4 billion lira, which has now increased to over 5 billion lira for 2025.
Budget Expected to Reach 7 Billion Lira by 2027
This budget increase reflects Turkey's determination in realizing the items of its National Space Program, which has already launched its first astronaut Alper Gezeravcı and second astronaut Tuva Cihangir Atasever, along with its first indigenous satellite, TÜRKSAT 6A.
Ongoing work aims for the "first contact with the Moon" project, with designs and production being handled by TÜBİTAK UZAY, targeting the establishment of lunar connection in 2026. Additionally, Turkey will host the largest space event, the International Astronautical Congress (IAC), in Antalya in 2026.
Turkey plans to allocate 5 billion 984 million 396 thousand lira for aerospace programs in 2026, while 6 billion 802 million 903 thousand lira is expected for 2027 to establish an R&D center focused on fusion technology for deep space propulsion systems.
Details of TUA's Budget Released
To enhance critical aerospace technologies and maintain leadership, Turkey will carry out various projects, including establishing an Atmospheric Application Center to monitor space weather.
The Turkey Space Agency (TUA) is allocated 2 billion 344 million 953 thousand lira for next year, with projections of 2 billion 781 million 864 thousand lira for 2026 and 3 billion 163 million 928 thousand lira for 2027.
Goals of the National Space Program
Turkey aims to compete globally in next-generation satellite development, develop regional positioning and timing systems, enhance access to space, establish a spaceport, and increase expertise in space weather and meteorology.
These initiatives will elevate Turkey's capabilities in astronomical observations and tracking space objects, while further developing its space industry economy, ultimately allowing Turkey to partake in the booming space economy projected to reach $1 trillion.
